MANILA - The local unit of Macau-based casino operator Melco Crown Entertainment (MCE)
has obtained the clearance from state-run Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp to start operations
at the City of Dreams Manila this weekend.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange, Melco Crown (Philippines) Resorts Corp said the $1.3-billion integrated resort
will commence operations on December 14 followed by a grand opening set before the Chinese New Year in 2015.
Melco Philippines is developing the City of Dreams Manila in partnership with Belle Corp of mall tycoon Henry Sy
the country's richest man.
City of Dreams Manila will have six hotel towers with a total of 950 rooms from three hotel brands Nobu Hotel
Crown Towers and Hyatt Hotel as well as a number of high-end specialty restaurants and bars.
City of Dreams Manila will host roughly 365 gaming tables, 1,680 slot machines and 1,680 electronic table games upon opening.
Aside from the Fortune Egg, the integrated resort will house two entertainment venues
including an indoor theme park developed by American animation studio Dreamworks and
a live performance central lounge inside the casino.
Last year, Belle took in MCE, owned by Australian billion James Packer and Lawrence Ho
to operate its casino in the Entertainment City gaming complex. Lawrence is the son of Macau gaming mogul Stanley Ho.
Belle will be the second Pagcor licensee to open its casino operations at the Entertainment City
after Solaire Resort and Casino of ports magnate Enrique Razon.
